Thx Guys ...actually it is not the lowest repack around cause it is based on a steam rip and need some Steam stuff to start and run ok...

I will do another repack based on a clean stand alone release (non steam)  and it will be lower than 700 mb... i just found out that i could use another version ...oups :)

I will use a 1.45 GB full version instead of 3.8 GB ... it is the latest no steam release said to be better than the steam one and more stable !

I am already compressing it ...release this afternoon (11 am here )

What's the difference between the non steam version and the steam version? Besides the steam related files of course.

none ... it is the latest version published all times... so it is the most complete and reliable version around...no content changes at all : )

I've just tested Portal repacks and here are my results.
I tried both the old and the new Portal repacks you uploaded and I had the same issue with both. The issue is that the game has these odd 'microstutters' every few seconds. So every 3-4 seconds the game stutters for half a second. At that point the audio cuts out and a few frames skip. It's very noticeable.

I thought it was my PC doing something, but I was shocked that a machine with 16gb of DDR4 RAM, 8700k CPU and GTX 1080Ti couldn't handle Portal 1.

So I tried installing KaOs repack of Portal 1 and I had no issues with it. No stutters whatsoever. Just smooth gameplay and smooth audio.

I even used the same in game settings in all my tests. Could you please try to check if you get these stutters with the Portal repack?

Very strange .... I just played it for 20 mins  and i have no stutter problem at all !! on a GTX780 + old xeon 3340 @3.9 GHz + 16 GB DDR3 2000 + wdc black edition 1 TB !!

Edit : i didn't recoded portal 1 videos as there is no vids !! ... i didn't touch files for portal 1 repack ...

Ok, I did a BUNCH of tests with Portal 1 now. Spent around 2 hours on it. I used KaOs repack for comparison and here are my results:

In this screenshot https://i.imgur.com/oIVJgvE.jpg you can see KaOs repack Portal 1 main menu screen with the console on. In the upper right corner, it says Source Engine 24 (build 1910503)

In this screenshot https://i.imgur.com/qhELs4b.jpg you can see your repack of Portal 1 and in the upper right corner, it says Source Engine 11 (build 3258).

That sounds like an OLD version of the source engine to me.

 

Another two examples are of the video settings:

KaOs: https://i.imgur.com/pkIMZVV.jpg it offers me some setting called Windows Aero Extension

Your Repack: https://imgur.com/LRoyngF same settings but it doesn't offer me that Aero feature

With an FPS counter turned on I can clearly see how the frames drop massively all the time.

 

EDIT: I just checked Portal 1 on Steam that I own and it's the exact same build like KaOs. Apparently the Source Engine 11 is way too old and doesn't play well with 'modern' systems.

It might comes from the fact that i used RG Mechanics  repack and files are fully extracted (no vpk files ) ...,i am pretty sure this is the problem for you ...

I played again just to be sure and i have absolutely no stutter at all  :( ...sorry for this issue bro .

I can't find Kaos portal repack , do you still have links or maybe torrent for it ?.... I will see what i can do. I will also try to make a version without extracting files ..but it will be larger for sure !
